Apache lost on 9 Dec 1943 - 08/06/2007 06:31:22 PM
On 9 Dec 1943 the Luftwaffe made only one claim over Italy, a Mustang claimed at 11.27 hrs NW of Valmontone by Hptm Julius Meimberg of 5./JG 53 (his 33rd victory).

On the MACR database, there is a possible match, the A-36 42-84078 of the 86th FG.

I would like confirmation that this AC was lost in air battle in the above area. I would also like to knew the name and fate of the pilot, and his squadron

Thanks in advance

Laurent

Laurent,

Best way to find out is to ask for a copy of MACR 1479. This website gives good information where you can do so.
The MACR will provide name of pilot, circumstances, group/squadron and more.

Regards,

Leendert

Hello,
MACR 1479 names the A-36 pilot as Douglas R. Plowden, Jr. of the 525th FS.  The new 86th FG book mentions Dick "Pluto" Plowden started flying Thunderbolts with the 527th in the winter of 44-45 at Pisa.
Best to all,
Bob
