Hello Andy, Your grandfather was the original bombardier on the crew of Lt Lewis Huston and was on the original cadre of the 487th Bomb Group. He arrived at Lavenham in the spring of 1944 and started flying operations in May. Quite soon he was selected to become a lead bombardier. In 'the history of the 487th Bomb Group' that I have written, there are two strike photos of bombing led by your grandfather, with excellent results. I miss his name in the autumn of 1944, I assume that he received addition training on radar equipment in that period. In early 1945 he is back as lead bombardier again. In case that you are interested, I have a photo of him with Squadron CO, Maj Eberhart. On the 487th BG website there is an individual photo of him, copied from the post-war 'blue book', the original Group History. I would be very interested to learn if you have any photos of your grandfather. Three of us are working on a 'pictorial history of the 487th Bomb Group' and new photo material is greatly welcomed. Hope to have been of help. Kind regards, Ivo de Jong
