Good day all, I am looking for information on my Uncle Andrew. All I know is that he was stationed with the 384th, 547th and was shot down and became a POW. He entered the service May of 42 and was sent to England in November I think. Anyone knowing of him in training, missions, or as a POW your contact would be greatly appreciated. I would like to know what his position was in the plane, where he was shot down, which mission and what POW camp he was sent to. Thank you for all your assistance and hard work. Best regards, John

John, In addition to checking the 384th BG web site as Mike has done, I've also checked the National Archives POW listings using both his name and his serial number. Those records do not list him as being a POW. These records may not be complete so don't take that as gospel. The enlistment records at the Archives do include him and confirm his serial number. The 384th web site shows his rank as Sergeant. If he was part of an aircrew a Sergeant would have been a gunner or a radio operator. The enlistment records show that he was born in 1908. He would have been 34 at the time he enlisted, I wonder if it might have been more likely that he would have been in a support position rather than an aircrew? Did he survive the war? Are there any living relatives who might be able to help? What we need here is a date when he was shot down, or the name of his pilot, the name or serial number of the plane he was shot down in, the target of that mission. Some factual scrap beyond his name and serial number that might give us a clue. Many men saved various documents from their time in the service. His Army personnel file may be available, check the Research Help tab at the top of the page for info on how to request those records. Hal

Hal, My father talked of my uncle being shot down and a POW for most of the war, stories of rotten potatoes and grass soup. As I remember my dad would say that he spent 2 years in a POW camp. This would make sense if he was assigned to the 547th in December 1942, and shot down sometime in 1943. My uncle did survive the war but died in 1955. He is buried in the soldier field at the cemetary near where I grew up in Manistee MI. I am pretty sure he was not a support person but in an aircrew. I will see if I can get anything from the Reasearch Help Thank you for the rapid response you guys are great! John

John, Follow this link to his grave listing. Do you know Leeanne, the person who posted this information? http://www.findagrave.c...n&GRid=17382222& Says she is working on a family tree. Wonder if she has come up with any information in the 2 years since she posted this? Might be worth contacting her. Hal
