A large request for Spitfire details please - 08/22/2007 09:20:46 AM
I recently had the misfortune of losing a large amount of data concerning the Spitfire names, serials, pilots, and histories of those MkV's & XI's that flew from Mount Farm.

Thanks to Peter's amazing site at 'Littlefriends' and a weeks hard graft with piecing information back together, I have recovered most of it. If anyone can kindly help with offering additional data for these, I would be extremely grateful to have got things as they were as best as possible.

Thank you all for taking the time out to read this request.

The aircraft are :

'Priscilla' -   Mk XI -  (serial & PS - Pilot? )
'Upstairs Maid' - Mk XI - (Passed RAF or lost - date ?)
MB946 - Mk XI - (Passed RAF/lost date - Pilot?)
PL962 - Mk XI - (pilot?)
PA842 - Mk XI - (Passed RAF/lost date - Pilot?)
PL914 - Mk XI - (pilot ?)
PA944 - Mk XI - (pilot ?)

Lastly, is a mystery F-5 (see below). I remember this causing a huge headache for me last year, and I cannot remember what its name was, to research it again. The cowling numbers are '311' and it has yellow prop' cones. I seem to recall finding it back then by way of seeing a b&w image of the plane taken at a different time. If anyone has that image....just to jog this old memory here?....Most kind!

Thank you all in advance for any effort made with this!

In gratitude

Nate

Thank you for that effort.

Terry....what can I say...that's impressive.

Can I ask you....what is 'Soxo' ? Apart from exposing my limited knowledge in these things, I am hoping this is somehow the name of the aircraft?

In any case, many thanks for your time in sharing those comprehensive details, these records are far more than I expected!

Mike...As always a stalwart assistant to my queries!

Yesterday I purchased a copy of 'Eyes of The Eighth' for my library. I am assuming this will be an invaluable reference point to avoid having to constantly bother you kind gentlemen further !?

Most kind!

Nick,

Ah...and now the other stalwart appears.

That's more than just  "a little more" for me !

Superb...thank you......Still can't locate which one of these might have been 'Priscilla'. I have two shots of her with the name on the side, but no tail section view. All very tantalising.

Thanks for the effort.

Nate          Terry will probably put you right but I think SOXO was a shipping code for aircraft delivered from USA to the UK ie. Eighth-Ninth AFs. Something like the "SNAKE" legend on planes sent from the UK to the Far East , meaning they weren't to be diverted en route.                 Nick
