873rd BS, 498th BG - 06/02/2005 09:20:31 PM
Looking for information on
MACR# 11237 UNIT # 498 BG SERIAL# 42-24605
DATE 12/27/44

The Heat's On

Uncle Joe Jinks served aboard.  He was a Sergeant and lost when the plane ditched 12/27/44.  Looking for information as to his position in the crew; served under Lt. Gress.  When the plane ditched, Pilot, Co-pilot, Navigator and Engineer were saved, all others died.  This is the extent of the information I have.

Appreciate any help anyone can give....and thanks - for your help and your military service!

SBloom:
According to the crew list he was the tail gunner on this ship.
Aircraft data sheet says they had a fuel transfer problem.

Thanks Bill!

I very much appreciate your help.

I toured Wright Patt museum over the weekend... and was able to see a B-29 ( a pretty famous one at that).

Again, thank you.  Will now try to progress from here in finding one of the survivors.
