Unfortunately, my father passed away when I was young, after my mother's passing I received my father's old footlocker filled with documents and his medals from his service. Now I'm searching for more information. Dad flew with the 86FG, 527th Fighter Squadron from his first combat mission on 7/15/1944 until he was shot down near Kauger Lautern Germany on 3/16/1945 and captured the next day and sent to Stalag 7A. Any information and/or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

the only losses of the 86th FG on the March 16th 1945 I found is this:
MACR#13078 P-47 #44-20596 12.AF 86th FG

                        Please visit the website www.86fighterbombergroup.com  It is under construction.  The 86th Fighter Bomber Group Association is comprised mostly of folks who were there and contact information at the bottom of the home page.  If you contact Sid Howard, he might be able to direct you to the right place to find out more detail about your Dad,
