869 Squadron Nose Art

Hello Everyone,
Recently my Uncle allowed me to scan the photos from his WWII album. He served as a B29 aerial gunner in the 497th Bomb Group, 869th bombardment squadron. He had nose art photos of many of the planes in his squadron. If anyone had relatives on any of the following planes, I’ll be happy to email a scan of the photo.

1. The Big Stick
2. Supine Sue
3. Texas Doll
4. Miss Hap
5. Joltin Josie
6. Miss Lace
7. Little Gem
8. Lady Mary Anna
9. Southern Bell
10. Marianna Ram
11. Our Baby
12. Little Joe
13. Stripped for Action
14. Poison Ivy
15. Lucky Leven
16. American Maid

Larry,

If it isn't too much trouble, I'd like copies of the following:
5. Joltin Josie
7. Little Gem
8. Lady Mary Anna
11. Our Baby
14. Poison Ivy

I'm certain my grandfather painted Little Gem and Our Baby, but I'm trying to confirm he painted these others. His name was Bud Sprenger. Maybe your relative will remember him.

Thanks,

Roger

Paula, my Uncle's name was Pete Allen. He became flight engineer on "American Maid". The captains he served with were Hanley and Thomas. He returned home in late July 1945 after completing his required missions. My uncle is on the front row, second from the right.

I have been putting together a web site in honor of my father, Clarence Black.  Dad was a crew chief for V51 of the 499th in Saipan.  I have posted many of the documents we found in Dad’s collection and I am now seeking photos from others of the planes, people, and Saipan base during WWII.  This is strictly a non-profit site and is only to help honor Dad and provide information to others interested in the history.  I would appreciate any contributions of photos you have or permission to use what I find on the Internet to add to my site.

Thanks,

Gordon Black

Larry,
Would it be possible for you to post all of the pictures on either this web site or the Yahoo groups b29superfortress web site?  I know that I and others would like to see all of the pictures.  I will be in Oklahoma City this week for the 73rd Bomb Wing Association reunion and perhaps some of the veterans there would like to see them.  If you can post them between now and Thursday, this week, I will make cetain that I have them and that they are available to family and friends at the reunion.

Sincerely, Ken Fine finechateau@msn.com

Hopefully I've responded to everyone's requests.  Ken, if you go to the reunion next year, let me know in advance and I'll send you a DVD of the entire album.

Could you please send me a copy of the American Maid?  My Dad was at Boeing when the first B29 rolled off the assembly line.  He did say that the B29 used every foot of the runway that day.

Thanks so much.

My great uncle, Oswald Jorstad, flew on the American Maid. My dad has been researching his uncle's war career - I would love to give him a photo of the American Maid if I could. Thanks!

I see that this thread has been around for a while.  My grandfather was Richard Cook and he was the right gunner on the American Maid under Bartlett mostly.  I was wondering if anyone on here remembers the color scheme of the American Maid nose art?  Likw what color the maid was and her hat and such.  I have a few really good pictures of her and I have a friend of mine that is into old pinup art and wants to recreate her in color for me.  So if any of you have any information that would be great.

My email is brips@juno.com
I have a few photos that I could email to anyone interested.
Thanks
