76th Bombardment Sqn - 02/21/2008 11:14:46 AM
This squadron was assigned to the 42nd BG during 1941, early 1942. Trying to determine who the squadron's Commanding Officer(s) was during this time. Thanks

According to the 42nd BG history book published in 1946, page 9, the first commander of the 76th Bomb Squadron was Major Robert O. Cork.  This was for January 1941, when the 42nd Bomb Group was formed out of the previous 7th Bomb Group.

From what I can tell reading Maurer-Maurer and poking on the web is the 76th BS was a stateside-only squadron and was never a combat squadron overseas.

Thanks Kevin. I have unconfirmed references to a 76th CO named Lt. Col. Dolan. I do have a document from Headquarters, 42nd BG, that confirms he was with the 76th, first at Boise, Idaho, then McChord Field, Washington, but in what capacity I'm unsure. Thanks. Darrell
