531st Fighter Bomber Sq
-

Can anyone out there tell me why they list the 531st fighter bomber sq. as part of the 21st FG??? Every book I have read, every MR or MACR lists them as a stand alone unit of the 7th AF. MAYBE as they were closing out the Marshalls Campaign they were attached to the 21st for paperwork, but nowhere are they ever shown as part of the 21st. If ANYBODY can show me some offical proof of this, please zap me an email. Otherwise, I sure wish someone would correct this. And by the way, I found an A-24 of the 531st FBG in Mili lagoon, have all the numbers and pictures for you all to see. Matt Holly It a brand new address, keep trying.

Hello...according to Maurer-Maurer, the Official History of the USAF.... Historical Division Air University, Department of the Air Force, in the book "Combat Squadrons OF the Air Force In WW II"..... page 638, in the account of the 531st FTR Squadron, under assignments, Quote...Assignments: Hawaiian(later Seventh) Air Force 1 Jan 1941; ..."21st Fighter Group 15 Jun 1944-10 Oct 1946".
In-as-much as this is from the Department of the USAF, I consider it fairly "Official'.
I attempted to email you at your email address and it was returned.
Jim :-)
