527th loss William T. Kaspervik 14/1/44 - 02/15/2008 09:59:06 AM
Hi,
Seeking details of the loss of William T.Kaspervik on the 14th January 1944.

Aircraft was an A-36 serial number 42-84096

MACR 1792

Yes 1792, sources do give 1974 but that is wrong according to Footnote site  where views of the actual macr can be seen.

Hi Alex,
Please check out the website:  http://home.att.net/~jbaugher/usafserials.html   The other website dedicated to the men who served in the 86th FBG is www.86fighterbombergroup.com  We are in the process of scanning in all of the declassified War Diaries; 86 FBG, 525-526-527 FBS's.  Knowing the squadron he flew with can narrow your search.

Regards,
John D. Rice % Lt. Robert C. Rice Jr.  526 FBS A-36 Fighter Bomber

You may be unaware that William T. Kaspervik was the third Kaspervik brother to die in WWII.  The first, pilot 1/Lt Donald W. Kaspervik, was a member of the 392nd Bomb Group and was killed in a collision with another B-24 during a training flight on June 29, 1943.  The second, Cpl Preston L. Kaspervik, was a radio operator in the 18th Airways and Communication Service Squadron and died of hepatitis on January 4, 1944.

Donald is buried in Quincy, IL.  Preston and William are buried side by side at the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery.

President Bush mentioned the Kaspervik brothers in his Memorial Day speech at that cemetery in 1989.  You can read the full speech at  http://www.usmemorialday.org/speeches/President/may2889.htm

Hello Rob, Yes thanks you I understood that.

hello John, Thanks for the links, I already looked at both  the Joe Baugher one and the 86th one too.

Hello Al, thank you for the link and extra details on the three brothers.

Sometimes I think what would the World be today if ALL of those who died for our freedom in WW2 had lived.

Thank you
Alex

Did you subscribe to the Footnote site? I am not sure how it works having never done something like this before.

Many thanks,
