47th bomb group night intruder ops in Italy,1944-45 - 06/29/2002 10:01:27 AM
As a military historian I am researching night intruder missions flown by 47th BG in Italy,1944-1945.At the present time I am looking for 86th and 97th Squadrons (47th BG) mission reports for night 24/25 August 1944.Unfortunately,neither AFHRA nor NARA archives have this file. Can anyone help me to find it ? Thanks in advance. [signature]

Eric :-) According to Maurer-Maurer, the 47thBG was equipeed with A-20's. As Scott says ..go to Home Page and the AAF Unit Database..... and click on the 47th BG. Jim :-) [signature]

Thanks, I should have known better and checked the data already on this site. Am curious if the unit flew in conjunction with Mosquito or Beaufighter night fighter units. At least in the ETO, the 422ndnfs and 425th had A-20's on hand for night bombing work and they were really not used in the intruder roles....... Erich [signature]

Dear Beppe,

My father flew night intruder missions with the 86th in 1944.  Although we do not have any mission reposrts he kept a diary of all of his missions.  From memmory the 86th initially flew day time missions but had switched over to night intruder missions by late 44.  my fahter was shot down on 11/12 Nov 44 on a single A-20 plane mission to blow up the last standing bridge over the Po river.
