464th B-24 photos in borrowed photo album - 10/10/2006 10:50:07 PM ( #1 )
I have borrowed a brittle-paged photo album from a ground crew mechanic that I have got to know well this summer.  I will have the album until next Sunday, October 15th.  He has many photos in it that he took of 464th BG and 465th BG B-24s.  I have found some fair to excellent nose art photos so far of these 465th BG B-24's:
MISSION BELLE
ALLEY OOP
HOT MATILDA
ANGEL of the SKY
EASY MAID
Guardian Angel
NO LOVE NO NOTHIN'

Among the 464th BG aircraft are :
Boozin Suzan
"PISTOL PACKIN' MAMA"
MILITARY SECRET
"SOUTHERN GAL"
CHERRY

A couple of unidentified aircraft are:
LIL JO TODDY  (449th BG 717 BS ???)
BUGS
THE GULF QUEEN
MISS FORTUNE
QUESTION MARK ?

There are more that I will document as I continue to study this treasure page by page with a magnifying glass.  I can scan images if anyone is interested.  If you are interested in some of the enlisted men (probably mostly ground crew guys) many photos have the names of the men labeled.

Hope I can help somebody find something they have looked for long and hard!

Can anyone help me with serials and Squadrons on the unidentified ones above?

Also, so far I have found a nice in flight photo of B-24 42-78406 with fuselage code R in a circle.  Another has serial ending in ...28 and fuselage code L in a circle.
More to come.

Lowell,

I would be extremely interested in seeing ANY photos of 464th and or 465th BG aircraft and personnel.

Re the aircraft you have listed as 465th -
the 464th had an "Alley Oop",  "Hot Matilda",  "Angel of the Sky", "Easy Maid", "Guardian Angel" and "No Love No Nothin'"  - No Love No Nothin' was a transfer to the 465th from the 464th.

Of the aircraft you have listed for the 464th
Boozin Suzan - Black J - 42-52502  779th BS
Military Secret -  42-52446  778th BS transferred to the 465th - interned in Switzerland Jul 19 '44
Pistol Packin' Mama - Red Y - 42-52563 - 776th BS  Retired from combat 9/13/44    eventually ret ZI
Southern Gal - Black Q - 42-52454  - 779th BS Mid air collision with Big Fat Mama on 2 May 44, Parma, Italy

The 464th BG "Guardian Angel" was aka "Off Limits"  42-78115  - 776th BS  Crashed on T/O at Gioia Italy 22 May 44
The 465th "Guardian Angel"  -  41-29376  -  781st BS
The "Alley Ooop" I show for both 464th & 465th -  41-29347  originally 464th BG 776th BS, then 465th BS 782nd BS crash landed on return from Ploesti 28 Jul '44

As I stated I would be very interested in seeing anything you might come up with.

Regards,

Bob Hoskinson

Hi Lowell

My uncle was a ground crew chief for the 464th BG in the 776th SQ. I would love to see what you have. It is very hard to find information on the ground crews point of view. I keep trying to learn more what it was like for the ground crew and my uncle and would appreciate whatever you would be willing to share. Here is a link to a website that I have made for our family about my uncle Joe:

Thanks!!!

PS please ask you friend if he knew my uncle

I am looking for pics of the plane "Old Iron Ass/Middle Digit". My grandfather was a gunner on the plane. Crew members were Pilot Ruel Miller, Charles Shafer, George Collins, Rocco Ravaschieri, William Chuta, Don Clotiaux(my grandfather), John Duelberg, Garland Cranston, George Baird, and Martin Styer. They were the 777th bomb sq and the plane was shot down on July 16, 1944.

My dad, David Kellogg, was the navigator on the B-24-Home for Christmas in the 778th squadron.  I would appreciate seeing any photos of his plane and crew.  My dad died in 1989 and didn't talk much about his time in the war.
