463rd 773rd October 1944 - 01/29/2008 12:26:19 PM
I'm researching the loss of two planes on Oct. 13th 1944. I'm trying to find the nickname of the plane #43-38482 flown by lt. Ernest Kirby MACR#9054. The plane exploded over the target but four men are reported to have bailed out. The other loss was "Never Satisfied" #44-6261 flown by Gale Patterson MACR#9204. the mission was to Florisdorf Vienna Austria. if anyone has any information please let me know.
thanks!

MACR 9204 for 44-6261 identifies the nickname of the plane as being "NEVER SATISFIED".  MACR 9054 for 43-38482 just has None in the blank for the plane's nickname.

Marty is correct in that the a/c piloted by Lt. Kirby did not have a nickname or at least there are none listed in any documents that I have that would indicate a nickname for the plane.

Sorry I cannot be of help with this.

I had better update this in case because I found this post when I was doing a google search and I had forgotten all about it. I contacted the widow of a man who was on the Kirby crew and I recieved the MACR plus some info from a son of another man who was on both of the missions Kirby crashed on. The ditch on the Adriatic & the explosion over vienna. On Oct. 13th, 1944 these are the crews to go down and the numbers on each plane...
43-38482 463rd 773rd Kirby MACR 9054, 44-6363 301st 353rd Shapiro MACR 9081, 42-32033 483rd 815 Houghtelin MACR 9142, 44-6261 463rd 773rd Patterson MACR 9204, and finally 42-32077 99th 347th Shafer MACR 9327
