426th or 427th action, 22/23 Jan 1945

Greetings from Maryland. Are there any 426th or 427th Night Fighter Squadron veterans / historians who might be able to help me learn more about a friendly fire incident? On the night of 22/23 January 1945 P-61s were involved in night fighter intercepts over Burma and maybe French Indochina. The RAF had sent out Special Duties B-24s to drop agents and supplies into FIC, but they had purposely held back from sharing their operational plans with the US. It had to do with sharply divergent US versus Britain strategy regarding FIC. It seems a friendly fire incident resulted. In all, 3 Liberators failed to return. Possibly all 3 were downed by P-61s, though the evidence seems to point to only 2 falling to gunfire. I think there were only two P-61 squadrons in the CBI -- the 426th and 427th. I am intrigued with the 22/23 Jan '45 action and would love to learn more from a veteran or an historian of either squadron. I can't seem to find veterans' associations for either squadron...possibly they have shut down, if there were any at all. Who might I contact? I'm just starting on this, to tell you the truth. I haven't been to the National Archives to search the official records yet, but since this incident was swept under the rug, to avoid an escalation of US-UK problems, there is a fair chance that the surviving records were doctored. I'll find out soon. I seek only the truth and have no interest in stirring up a hornet's nest regarding this incident. It's a touchy subject, no doubt. Thanks for your help, Matt
