My name is Harris, I'm looking for any surviving crew or others with info on 42-5806 downed mission 14 over Gelskirchen. My uncle was Charles V. Richey who was MIA'd on same mission.

Hello Harris, Well, I don't have all of what you are looking for, but it will be a start for others. B-17 42-5806 was assigned to the 384th BG/545th BS. It was shot down by ground fire on 12 Aug 1943 and crashed near Bonn, Germany. On that day, it was piloted by 2nd LT Robert D. Swank. Four of the crew were killed in action and 6 were taken POW. MACR 288 was issued. That is all the information I have. Good luck on your search.
David Schmitt d.schmitt@prodigy.net son of 1st LT Donald J. Schmitt, USAAF, co-pilot assigned to 493rd BG/863rd BS at Debach, England from Nov 1944 thru May 1945

I hope you already know about 384thBombGroup.com - but if not, give that a try. Also, I have MACR 288 (as well as some others) that I need to find time to post. I am also building a website containing Ken Decker's 384th BG history, and in the next few weeks should have August 1943 completed. Look for an announcement on the 384th BG website. KEEP THE SHOW ON THE ROAD! f3
