You did it perfectly! Here's the original photo that Slimm referred to -- it's on Tony's USAAF-in-CBI website:

Roger Sidwell also provided this now-famous photo that we have been discussing on the Facebook B-24 group. The small airplane in the highlighted area below the bombers is a Japanese fighter. The caption on Tony's site reads: Taken from plane #248 when the 425th of the 308th hit Kowloon Docks in June '44. Crew on #248 were Dougall McCallum (pilot), Roger W. Sidwell (co-pilot), Bernard Einson (bombadier), Bernard Kaufman (navigator), Joseph A. Shanahan (engineer), Evans Kranidas (radio), F. G. Morelli (tail-gun), Allen G. Henderson, (asst. engr.), Jack E. Mackay (nose-gun), John B. Townsend,Jr. (waist-gun).

Cool, I have the photos Roger posted as well. I am not on Facebook but will check that out. I thought my mother had lost or gave away my dads war photos then I found them stashed away in my cellar. My dad never talk much about the war. That's why last week I started looking into what he did after finding the photos and info he stored. Some of the other photos he had were of nose art. the bombers included Snafu, "80 days", Lonesome Polecat, one that looks like Raacky Runner, and one that has Chinese or Japanese markings. He had a clipping out of I assume might be Yank? It was a small write up with a quote from Jack E. Mackey when he was on Malicious. I would rather scan and post it then rewrite it. I got a kick out of his quote. He also had some aerials. Bomber formations and photos of the bombs dropping out of those formations And some photos of pin ups that visited Ann Sheridan and Jinx Falkenburg. Glad he wrote the names on the photos that was before my time. Thanks, to everyone who kept this info available on the internet

Slimm - You stated for nose art: "one that looks like Raacky Runner". Could you attach a scan of that one?
Thanks, much

"Snafu" and "80 Days" are 308th names. Both "80 Days" and "Lonesome Polecat" were carried by two consecutive aircraft, the second being "Lonesome Polecat Jr." The one with Chinese characters on the nose is "China Doll." Not familiar with "Raacky Runner," though an early Cadre plane was "Rum Runner." Haven't heard of "Malicious" before. The actresses visited the 38th on USO Tours; I believe that Sheridan may have been the inspiration for the nose art on "Shooting Star."

Trying to read the nose art on that one I thought was Raacky runner. Its in cursive the first word might be " Ready " Probably take me a while but I will get it scanned and post.

I would suggest that "Raacky Runner" is really "Krachy Kourier" 42-73310. I, too, have never run across "Malicious," yet. The B-24 with "Chinese or Japanese markings" is probably the third iteration of "China Doll" 42-40367. The first "China Doll" 41-24066 crash-landed in British Guyana on an early leg of the trip to China, and the second "China Doll" 42-40070 was destroyed within an hour of its arrival at Kunming in a Japanese air raid. The Kowloon photo appeared in the 1957 and 1958 14th AF Association Annual Pictorial Magazine.

Maybe Malicious wasn't part of the 308th??? Don't know how that would have worked as far as Jack switching Bomber groups. I know it said he had taken part in 39 missions, including Kowloon Docks and qualified as a ace gunner. Slimm

Jack, I have the serial of "Krachy Kourier" as 42-73318. I didn't have a name listed for 41-24066 when it crashed on the way to China with Fensler as pilot (who was lost a month later on "Pregnant Swan"). The replacement, 42-40070 flown by DeHay was said in some sources to be "Psycology," destroyed in the bombing raid after arrival. Here's another that I ran across last night in Glines' book: "Thundermug." The tail gunner was killed on the August 21, 1943 mission to Hankow when two planes were lost ("Rum Runner" and "Je Reviens"). Slimm, I doubt that your scanner needs the ink cartridges installed as you should just be making an image file, but some machines are weird. Your father probably flew on many 308th planes; the crews were often mixed up and rotated among the available aircraft for each mission, so few crews completed all of their missions on one plane. -- Alan

Based on the photos you have I must presume it was mid-to-late 1944 thru part of 1945. Name of several of the 308th's planes from that time period have not yet have identified. We know some of those currently without names did not have one, however, some possibly did and we simply have yet to discover/confirm those names.
