Ok, so here is my question Jaap.  What leads you to believe he crashed near Prum?  From what I know, he was seen flying toward Germany and not responding to his wingman's messages.  Wingman flew alongside him for 20 miles without any response.  Danny

The/a P-47 database puts the crash site at Amel/Valender, Belgium, not that far (25 km in a straight line?) and across the border from Prüm, Germany.
    See http://p-47.database.pagesperso-orange.fr/Database/42-2xxxx.htm

Jaap wrote "near Prüm" and perhaps since the orginal posting more detailed info has come to light.
