39th FS Post War markings inquiry - 07/19/2007 05:18:01 AM

Hi there,

I have come across a rare picture of a 39th FS F-51D taken post war.

The brief details say "F-51D 39thFS - Johnson Field, Japan, 1949".

My question is, as there are no other visible markings, might anyone kindly know whether there was anything painted on the front section of the tail...serial number, Sqdn letters etc ?

Any advise gratefully received.

Serials are still on vertical tails but sometimes overpainted on rudders. Nick Attached Image(s)
