Mike, Below is a list of the B-17F's I have put together that I believe are matches for your attached list. Notice a different spelling on "Doc Stork" but yours may very well be correct. I've not yet found a photo of this nose art.. Likewise with your "Holy Joe" I have found it referenced before as "Holey Joe" but no photo proof. I haven't found any photos yet either of Dirtie Girtie or O'Reilly's Daughter. I HAVE seen photos of the other nose art below, however, with Sadie Hawkins the bust art work is cut off and no lettering is visible. Notice it is "980" and your attachment lists an "890" which I believe is a probable misprint on his part. I have found 331 different serials of 301st BG B-17s and none have the last three of "890." 41-24347 B-17F-1-BO Doc Stork assigned to 352nd at Chalveston-7/42 41-24348 B-17F-1-BO Pegasus assigned Chalveston-7/1/42 41-24351 B-17F-1-BO Heine Headhunters assigned Chalveston-7/12/42 41-24352 B-17F-1-BO Holey Joe assigned Chalveston-7/42 41-24368 B-17F-1-BO Maverick assigned Westover-7/42 41-24372 B-17F-1-BO HELL'S BATTLEWAGON assigned Westover-6/23/42 41-24397 B-17F-5-BO PHYLLIS assigned Westover-7/8/42 41-24404 B-17F-5-BO Carol Jean III assigned Westover-7/14/42 41-24418 B-17F-5-BO Mickey Finn assigned Westover-7/12/42 41-24422 B-17F-5-BO Dickie Doodle II assigned Westover-7/14/42 41-24618 B-17F-27-BO Lil Jo assigned Chalveston-11/42 42-2980 B-17F-10-DL Sadie Hawkins assigned St. Donat-3/6/43 42-5143 B-17F-35-DL Dirty Girtie assigned Ain M'Lila-1/16/43 42-5217 B-17F-40-BO O'Reilly's Daughter assigned Biskra-1/12/43 42-5397 B-17F-50-BO (no known name) assigned Biskra-1/9/43 42-5403 B-17F-50-BO (Interesting. I hadn't seen a name before on this one!) assigned Biskra-1/14/43 Thank you for posting Mike. Tell us more please! Lowell Thompson 301st Bomb Group/Wings Association Historian

Hi Mike: My father was William L. Condy, 0-435859, Capt (step dad but I consider him my dad). He flew 41-24351 "Heinie Headhunters" listed in the previous e-mail from Lowell Thompson. He received the Distingused Flying Cross in July 1943 from a sortie over Palermo Harbor on 22 March 1943. I have information on his military career if you are interested in any specifics.

Richard, We've got your step father listed a few times on the 301st website. www.301bg.com http://www.301bg.com/Condy_William_L.cfm If you have a service photo and any other biographical material we can post that would be fantastic. If you don't have all of his mission lists, I know I have him listed on some including the complete crew. Check the new "missions" link on the site. Bob Coalter
