2nd Lt. Fred Bernard - 714th BS

Hi,
I am researching the crash of the Wabash Cannon Ball 42-109793 on 2nd July 1944.
I know the Co-Pilot James Schierbrock died of injuries after baling out and 8 of the crew were either PoWs or interred in Switzerland after a mission on 12th July.
The Bombardier - 2nd Lt Fred Bernard O-697892 was injured "the prop came through the fuselage, hitting his foot, a severe wound" He survived the bail out and was admitted to hospital.
Does anyone know if he recovered and returned to duty or did he get shipped home?
Thanks in advance.
Robert
