25th February 1943

Hello,
Apologies if this is in the wrong section.
On 25th February 1943 at Orange County AAF Base  John W. Jacobs Jr was involved in a Taxiing Accident in a P-38F.
Serial number is given as being either 43-2060 OR 43-2960.
Anyone know which serial number is the correct one please ?

Thanks
Alex

Hello Bill,
Thank you for the reply, yes but this one gives 43-2060
http://www.aviationarchaeology.com/src/dbadate.asp?thedate=430225&Submit2=Go&offset=25
but both with the same man. So was he in two minor accidents or is one of the serial numbers recorded incorrectly ?

Alex,
Joe Baugher's website lists a series of P-38F serial numbers as 43-2035/2063 which presumably includes 43-2060. The link for this is:
http://www.joebaugher.com.saf_fighters/p38_10.html
Hope this helps.
Bill

Hello Bill,
That is the rub.
43-2060 is not listed in JB as yet.
And as for 43-2960 that it seems is the serial number for an L4- Grasshopper.

Hello Alex,
It's me again. Here are search results on Aviation Archaeology for SN 43-2060.

Hello Bill,
Yes thanks I had this but the question was about which is the correct serial number and aircraft type that John W. Jacobs jr was in on the 25th February 1943 . I had assumed it was a P-38F from the websites.
But was it 43-2060 or 43-2960 and so was it a P-38 or an L-4 Grasshopper ?
Thanks
Alex

Alex, it appears that John W. Jacobs, Jr. was involved with an earlier crash in Australia. I don't know if you are interested in it or already aware of it, but here is a link to some information:

Hello Bill,
So the Australian event involved a SINGLE  engined aircraft an A-24.
It may be then that the a/c on the 25th February 1943 could have been the Grasshopper .
But will except for now unless further information comes to light that it was indeed the P-38.

All the very best
