Alain, According to the operational diary of the fourth in the book "Escort to Berlin" by Gary L. Fry and Jeffrey L. Ethell, Richard Reed was lost on 20 February 1944. 20 February 1944: F.0. 245. Capt. Goodson led a Withdrawal Support to Kirkburg, Germany, from 1250 to 1625 hours. The Group rendezvoused with two combat bomb wings of B-24s and five combat wings of B-17s at 1429, flying at 23,000 feet northeast of Koblenz. Five Bf 109s attacked with rockets and 335 engaged. Near Malmedy eight FW 190s attacked the first box from the rear. Mills, Beeson and McKennon each got one. Before Richard Reed was shot down and killed he shared a Bf 110 with Paul Riley. This was the start of what later became known as the 8th Air Force Big Week, 20-25 February 1944 [Box Score: 4 destroyed, 1 lost] I hope this helps but not photo as yet. Randy

Hi Mike, Thanks for the info. Was Reed with the 395th at anytime ? or is it a typo ? Reed has an interesting flying history, joined RCAF, flew with RAF, then onto 94th, then was it straight to the 335th ? I am just trying to clear up the last unit/s he was with. Thanks again Jerry

Jerry - Sorry - No info on 94th. It would be odd that he would have transitioned from a P - 38 Group to a P - 47 Group. But - who knows ? Mike
