12th AAF Tactical Markings - 07/27/2008 08:11:23 PM
In April or May of 1943, HQ/North African Air Force issued a request
asking all fighter groups under its command to develop a distinctive
tactical unit marker.

If anyone has specific information relating to this communication, i.e.
Memo No., exact date of issuance, etc., I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Hey Mike,

The tactical markings directive I'm referring to applied to those fighter
groups operating within the MTO and were individual unit identification
markers as opposed to general Allied Recognition Stripes. (See attached
example of the 325thFG/P-40 group marking).
