A little correction: it's 1st Lt. Russell H. Jenner and not Jenner Russell.
He was from Lakewood, Ohio, buried at Henri-Chapelle Cemetery and served in 369th FG/ 359th FG

A small entry found on http://www.lkwdpl.org/history/wwtwo.html

Also, Jenner is listed as Killed in Action, not in an accident, as he was on a mission at the time.  He suffered mechanical failure in P-51D 44-13336 IV-Y "Yankee Clipper" of Lt.Col. Swanson and crashed near St. Trond.  He had joined the 369th on 25 July 1944.

Hello,

Thanks for the information.
I didn't know he was listed as KIA because of the "Report of Aircraft Accident". Next information can be found in this report:
The nature of accident: Collision with ground from full flight.
Cause of accident: Unknown.
Pilots mission: Operational.
Can anybody tell which type of operation? The city of Landen was hit by a V1 missile that day. His P-51 crashed at Hakendover, near Tirlemont. The city of Landen is situated near Hakendover. Is there may be a link between his mission and the V1 attack?
Regards and greetings from Belgium.

Alex,

359th FG was in 8th AF. More likely to have been on an escort and not tactical mission on 30 Oct 44.

Quite correct Leendert.  Rest of the details for Alexander are:

Mission was in response to Field Order 1273a.   Ramrod – escort to B-17s attacking Merseburg but recalled when group was just inside German border.   Jenner was flying Red 3 with Lt. Robert B Erwin as wingman at Red 4 in 44-15081 IV-T who force-landed also in Belgium.  MACR for Jenner is number 10243

Hello,
Thanks again for this interesting information.
So the Air Force formulated 2 reports for the incident: MACR and Accident Report. Isn't this strange?
The region where 1 Lt Russell H. Jenner crashed was Allied Territory at that time. And it's just not fare away from the bases of Saint-Trond (A-92) and Le Culot (A-89).
Does anyone know where (books, internet...) I can find a picture of the pilot?
Regards,

Alexander

Alain,

If 44-15081 made f/l in Belgium, then at least not a write-off. The P-51 was lost over Germany on 28 Feb 45 with Capt. Harry Matthew (POW). MACR 12800.
